Black & White developed the design from the employer’s requirements in close coordination with the contracting and design teams. This project further demonstrates our capability within the commercial sector and enhances our extensive portfolio of commercial projects.
“We are currently delivering approximately 355,000 sq. ft of commercial office space throughout the Middle East and have recently been awarded a number of regional frameworks for multinational corporations. Project Wow is another great example of our collaboration with the ATS team with whom we are partnering with on several projects throughout the UAE” commented Jamie Darragh, Technical Director, Middle East region.
Net Zero Carbon Design
April 20th, 2022We’re working on the third phase of The North East Technology Park – NETPark which is expanding to include a new laboratory, production and office spaces for Clear Futures.
The design of the new buildings are fully sustainable and enable significant reductions in carbon emissions, much greater than the industry standard.
To achieve this, we’ve undertaken an in-depth analysis of the building physics properties that affect the development’s operational performance. All our efforts have guided the project team to a highly insulated, passive design which takes advantage of the local climate, daylighting, and building layout, whilst implementing highly efficient systems, to provide a series of low energy intensive buildings.
Working collaboratively and progressively with Ryder Architecture, Jasper Kerr Consulting, T&T and DDP, we’ve ensured the client’s aspirations for working towards a Net Zero Carbon development are met.
It’s been an absolute joy to work on this one and we can’t wait to see the finished eco-friendly development.
World-Class Aquarium planned for Bahrain
August 25th, 2020World-Class Aquarium planned for Bahrain
Abu Dhabi based developer Eagle Hills has entered a joint venture with Emaar Entertainment to bring a new aquarium and Underwater Zoo to Bahrain. Billed as the first of its kind in the kingdom, the attraction will span 26,900 square feet and expected to hold 360,000 litres of water and over 200 species of fish.
Black & White are Lead Consultant for Design Services for the aquarium which consists of a lower level underwater aquarium and a mezzanine aquarium research level featuring a 20-foot-long digital tunnel with multiple interactive digital exhibits. The attraction will house four different ecological zones: ‘Rainforest’, the ‘Ocean Trench’, the ‘Jellyfish’ (Boom Room) and the ‘Reef Zone’, which includes ‘Lab of the Future’. Strategically located tanks and immersive tunnels within the exhibits will allow visitors to come face-to-face with varied collections of aquatic life, enabling them to learn more about a wide array of marine species.
Setting a new benchmark for entertainment and leisure experiences, the aquarium and underwater zoo will play a key role in both local and regional tourism. Working alongside notable entities such as Emaar Entertainment, Black & White provided full design services to RIBA 4 BIM LOD 300. The client’s vision and the appointment of a first in class consultant team and client representative will create an aquarium comparable to other world-class aquariums across the globe.
“This project further demonstrates Black & White is the go-to consultant for complex engineering projects. We have also successfully provided lead consultant services, which enhances our growing reputation as a lead designer, managing our specialist partners who I thank for their commitment to the project.” says Jamie Darragh, Technical Director from our Dubai office.
The project will be installed at the Marassi Galleria shopping mall set to open in the kingdom in 2021.
Black & White deliver new go-karting attraction
February 3rd, 2020The highly anticipated go-karting attraction has recently opened its doors to the public, offering visitors a high-end electric karting experience in the new Dubai Mall Zabeel extension.
MEP services for fit-out process requires a very specialised approach. These projects are often unique and fast track, requiring all services to be designed and coordinated to a very high level of detail.
We were initially appointed to undertake a Peer Review of the existing design and subsequently appointed in a lead design role to ensure the design was completed accurately and efficiently. We also provided post contract services and management of the fit-out contractor.
B&W worked closely with JLL and Havelock One Interiors to ensure we delivered the project on time and to budget. We are delighted to see this project well received and this is one of a number of entertainment attractions Black & White are designing within the region.
Approval milestone for Giants on the Quayside
August 14th, 2019We are proud to be part of the World Wheel Company’s professional team celebrating the recent planning approval at the Spillers Quay location on the banks of the Tyne.
World Wheel Company’s ‘Giants on the Quayside’ development is set to be one of Europe’s best waterfront experiences, located in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is a new destination for leisure, sport, food and drink – built around a 140-metre giant observation wheel, dubbed ‘The Whey Aye’.
The wheel will stand five metres taller than the London Eye, with 60 cabins each holding up to eight passengers. It will be fully licensed and passengers can expect fantastic views across the quayside during the 30 minute ride.
The new leisure destination will also include an amazing 12m ‘Geordie Giant’ sculpture and up to 15 bars and restaurants, set amongst a fully landscaped tree-lined plaza and open social spaces where visitors can eat and drink or just relax and enjoy the views.
Giants on the Quayside caters for the whole family and will feature a children’s play area and offer a wide range of sports and leisure, including 5-a-side football, trampolining, a climbing wall and virtual reality golf.
Working closely with Concept-I, Ryder Architecture and the wider team supporting a world class planning proposal, Black & White Engineering have provided design services that include site wide infrastructure, MEP spatial planning, and complex external lighting proposals and impact assessments.
