We are delighted to announce that as a result of the continued growth of our Singapore and APAC business, our Singapore team have relocated to larger, more spacious offices.

Our new office is centrally located on the 24th floor of Capital Tower in the CBD area of Robinson Road, directly above Tanjong Pagar MRT Station, in a 52-story landmark offering stunning views across the city and within walking distance of Chinatown, Telok Ayr and Raffles place.

Talking about our new office, Andy Woodward, our Singapore director, said: “We’ve only been in Singapore since 2019 and, some would say, didn’t choose a great time to create a new APAC hub start-up for our Global business, but we have gone from strength to strength, working on a wide range of innovative and sustainable projects with both new and returning clients, particularly within the data center and mission critical spaces, a key sector for B&W. We continue to invest significantly in the region and now have over 175 staff across our Asia Pacific business”.

If you are passing or would like to know more about the B&W team, please do drop in and see us.

In July 2022 we celebrated 15 years of engineering success since we opened our first office in Dubai in 2007. We have grown from a staff of 4 people to 326 with offices in 11 cities around the world. Our partner network has been solidified and extended to reach most of Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. We remain a true people business that focusses on our employees ensuring we are an employer of choice. I am proud that the majority of our founding team members remain with us today, while many others have also celebrated 10 or more years with us.

The 136 accolades and awards our staff have gained over the years is testament to the talent we are privileged to call our One Global Team. We have successfully retained the honour of being awarded the MEP Consultant of the Year for 4 consecutive years in the Middle East and last month we were crowned SME of the Year at the Constructing Excellence in the North East Awards 2022 in the UK. I am immensely proud that our team has been recognised for the incredible talents, teamwork and professionalism displayed by every single member.

Our future is looking bright! We continue our growth story in accordance with our business plan whilst expanding our global services offering with many new opportunities to join our family. We have opened additional business streams, such as Lead Design Consulting and our Commissioning business which is primarily based in the Middle East, servicing our clients in the region and Europe. We are now proudly positioned as a global leading MEP company due to our complex engineering design solutions. We have become the “go-to” specialist consultancy due to our centre of excellence for data centres and highly resilient building designs.

We currently operate in a diverse range of sectors, in particular technology, where we are seeing considerable global growth. Our business model focuses on developing our specialist team through maintaining individuals’ focus on specific sectors. We encourage employee mobility and access to exposure to projects across the global business. This provides our engineers with a broad spectrum of challenges working with clients with differing requirements, MEP design in different environments to different standards and most importantly, experience. This enhances the knowledge and expertise of our team and gives us a strong advantage in servicing our clients around the globe.

We have recently gathered our global leaders and upcoming talent to discuss our business plans and strategy for the coming years.  This will include a greater focus on our sustainability offering with the implementation of stage 1 of our Carbon Neutral Policy for all our offices. Having engaged in a Net Zero Carbon (NZC) office complex as part of a prominent development, our expertise is seen in all our designs where we aim to minimise power and water consumption which will have less impact on the environment as we focus on designs that derive power from renewable sources. Furthermore, across the data centre projects Black & White has worked on over the last year, the implementation of energy-saving measures such as the utilisation of redundant plant during normal operation, applying elevated chilled water temperatures, and incorporating free cooling into the design have improved the PUE dramatically.

We are also setting up a new Research & Development team, a world class Graduate Training Programme and a Black & White University which will focus on the Data Centre sector.

We are seeing a shift to focusing on new sectors such as pharma/high tech manufacturing and logistics which our R&D team will be researching emerging technology for MEP projects. Our continued business growth covering workforce, clients and commercial sets Black & White aside as one of the highest performing independent MEP engineering businesses globally. We have always had the ability to quickly adapt to any change and provide consistent expert knowledge due to the global nature of our One Global Team approach.

Our teams can tap into expertise from any location, at any time, offering a 24/7 client service. Our projects have continued on track despite the significant global disruption over the past two years. I am looking forward to the next 15 years of the growth and success of Black & White!

Black & White Newcastle Office were invited to take part in the Newcastle Business Fives summer football event on Thursday 25th August.  The event runs twice a year and is part of a series of corporate charity esports, golf and football events hosted by Business Fives across the UK.  Through past events, fundraisers have manged to raise over £325,000 for numerous charities, with over £15,000 distributed to the chosen charity of the winners and runners up from the recent winter season events.  The August event in Newcastle was the 8th qualifier of the summer, with a total of fourteen regional qualifying events held across the UK over the course of the summer.  With £500 worth of donations on offer and 3 qualifying spots for the National Final to be held in Leeds in October up for grabs there was plenty to play for.

After 7 hard fought matches our Black & White team made it to the Europa League final where we managed to hang on for a well-deserved 3-2 victory and were crowned Europa League winners, bagging the final qualification spot for the national finals in Leeds, as well as a £150 donation for our chosen office charity, The Newcastle United Foundation (https://www.nufoundation.org.uk/).

The Champions League final was ultimately won by DAC Beachcroft, securing them the top prize of a £350 donation to their chosen charity, Cancer Connections.

Following the finals, players were treated to a few stories from Geordie Alan Thompson from his playing days at Newcastle Utd, Bolton and Celtic prior to the trophy presentations.  By the end of the event, 21 companies had combined to score 266 goals in 66 games raising £1,605 for charity in the process.

Huge thanks go to all the sponsors, players and Business Fives Ltd for a fantastic event that raises much needed funds for some worthy charities. It was a pleasure the be part of it.
