Project: Barwa Mall, Qatar

Description: Full MEP Design 83,500 m²

Location: Qatar

Client: Barwa Developers

Architect: Woods Bagot

Year: 2011

MEP design for the conversion of an existing building to a multi-use building containing shopping mall, serviced apartments, cinema, offices and medical centre comprising total floor area of 83,500 m².  We provided full MEP and AV/IT Design Services on the project.

Working with Woods Bagot & Hochtief, Barwa Mall was created out of an existing building footprint that is already partly built, measuring 286 m long x 7 m wide.

As part of the new design team, our challenge was to evolve this building into a full multi-use complex including shopping mall, cinema, serviced apartments, medical centre, offices and a basement level car park. The brief for the mall included the provision of a food court and space for a children’s themed play area and bowling alley.

The primary challenge was, essentially, to fit the services for the new building use into the already planned building shell.

Over 1200 drawings were produced in the five-month design period which progressed as the contractor continued to construct the building to meet the overall construction programme for the master development.
