‘IMAGINE’ Guiness World Record Breaking Attraction

Black & White Engineering were responsible for the MEP design of the new record breaking attraction at Dubai Festival City, ‘IMAGINE’.

The show delivers a unique sensory experience, utilising light, water and fire, combined with giant projection screens, 30 fountains and surround sound.

Boasting the largest water screen projection in the world – a Guinness World Record breaker, it features the latest entertainment technology in water, pyrotechnics, lasers, lights and dramatic effects.

We developed the design in accordance with the requirements of Laser Vision Mega Media, providing services to land based and water based equipment.

The land based design consisted of services to 22 media blades which form an integral part of the shows operation, alongside the control and projector rooms located on the roof of the mall.

The water based assets are operated via generators installed in a compound adjacent the mall.

Meeting the demands of laser vision was a challenge and something which we have successfully achieved.

The attraction opened during the festive period 2016 and continues to be a success.

Dubai Festival City Mall Nearing Completion

Dubai Festival City Mall is a landmark 2m sq. ft. urban retail development which is located at the centre of Dubai Festival City – now acknowledged to be one of the UAE’s most exciting retail, dining and leisure attractions.

Set on the historic Dubai Creek, Dubai Festival City Mall has undertaken a radical transformation that now offers over 400 world class retailers, 75 restaurants – many of which feature waterfront dining and excellent views of the mall’s new attraction ‘IMAGINE’.

Designing and supervising the MEP services for a significant expansion and interfacing with a large existing building which had to remain operational during the construction works has provided an exciting proposition for the team to demonstrate Black & White’s capabilities.

The multidiscipline team has provided site services for the duration of the project which is currently going through the final stages of completion. The continuity from the design office to the site enabled smooth transition, with a detailed appreciation of the project allowing carefully considered approaches and informed decisions when considering changes to the scope and additional work packages.

As to be expected the project has presented many challenges, such as the development of a strategy to maintain all the MEP and FLS services currently in use, ensuring no interruption to the day to day operation of the mall whilst it underwent the ambitious two phase expansion programme. The team has also had to manage simultaneous authority submissions, inspections and approvals to ensure programme was maintained, such as the opening of large landlord attractions and the trading requirements of key tenancies.

The project is due to be handed over at the end of the first quarter of 2017 and will be a further demonstration of Black & White’s successful design and management of retail developments.

B&W Supports RIBA Cityscape Event in Dubai

Black & White are pleased to have supported the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) recently in conjunction with their Cityscape Global 2016 networking event, organised in collaboration with the Dubai British Embassy.
Attendees included local RIBA members, as well as other architects working in the region, construction professionals and fellow professional institutes.  The event included a welcome speech from the Deputy Consul General and RIBA President Jane Duncan.
RIBA champions better buildings, communities and the environment through architecture, providing standards, training, support and recognition that puts their members at the peak of their profession – both in the UK and overseas.  At government level, RIBA works to improve the design quality of public buildings, new homes and new communities.
Black & White Engineering was proud to support RIBA with their Dubai Cityscape evening reception with Members. B&W will be collaborating with RIBA over the oncoming months to explore potential opportunities to provide MEP support and local knowledge for RIBA members who are venturing into the Middle East.
