Improving the B&W Team Through Continual Self Improvement, Staff Training and Development

Black & White encourages our staff to strive for personal and professional growth and are committed to ongoing staff training and development.  Two of our UK based team members – Phillip HiltonWest and Gavin Wilson – have recently enrolled on a management training course which consists of a Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management and Leadership and will take approximately 18 months to complete.  Being competence based and to National Occupational Standards (NOS), the course requires participants to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required and assessments must be undertaken in the workplace or a realistic work environment.

Phil HWest & Gavin Wilson News Article v2

The Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management and Leadership has been accredited by the qualifications regulators for England, Wales and Northern Ireland and is part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). It is aimed at current and prospective managers and leaders and covers the skills needed to be a successful manager/leader, covering competencies applicable to a wide range of contexts.

The qualification is a full award at Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in Management and Leadership, which is equivalent to an undergraduate degree.

We wish Phil and Gavin well in their endeavours over the next 18 months.

The First Lux Awards Middle East, 2016

Golden L Trophy

The first ever Lux Awards were held recently with the winners revealed at a glittering Lux Awards ceremony at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.   One of our own Technical Directors Shaun O’Mahoney, was invited to be part of the judging panel.

Lighting schemes for projects in the UAE dominated the region’s winning entries, with seven entries from Dubai and Abu Dhabi awarded iconic ‘Golden L’ trophies.

The judges had a tough job due to the scale and ambition of projects and the incredibly high standard of world-class entries.

B&W extends congratulations to all those who won awards, the participants for their excellent work in this specialised field and the organisers for their initiative in holding the awards.

UAE’s New Green Building Regulations

The new Green Building Regulations recently introduced by the UAE government, while primarily applicable to new buildings, will also have an impact on existing MEP systems, particularly in buildings where refurbishments and upgrades are undertaken.

Middle East Consultant magazine recently featured an article in their March 2016 edition focussing on existing buildings in relation to the new codes and asked B&W’s Technical Director Alistair Davis for his contribution to this important subject.
